Live: Donald Trump Meets Barack Obama and Republican Leadership in Washington DC

The President Elect met with Barack Obama in the Oval Office to discuss the smooth handover of power - but it was a bit of an awkward meeting

President-elect Donald Trump is in Washington DC, meeting with Barack Obama at the White House to discuss a smooth handover of power.

He said it was "an honour" to meet Mr Obama - whom he called "a very good man" - for the first time.

But the body language in the meeting was a little awkward.

Mr Trump spoke on the phone with British Prime Minister Theresa May - but she was not at the top of the list. He called nine other world leaders first, including calls to Ireland and Australia.

Meanwhile, violent demonstrations have taken place in major cities including New York, Los Angeles and Washington. There have been violent clashes with police with some protesters even hanging effigies of Trump.
